Marine fender systems are the safe interface between the berthing vessels and the berth structures. The principal function of the marine fender systems is to absorb and transform the vessel’s kinetic energy into reaction forces which can be supported by the berthing structure and vessel’s hull.

Design

The design, production and testing of our marine fender systems is based on Guidelines for the Design of Fender Systems:2002 edited by MarcCom Work Group 33 of PIANC (World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure), European standard: Eurocode 3 (EN 1993) – standard for the design of steel structures, BS 6349 Maritime works – Part 4: Code of practice for design of fendering and mooring systems, and the state of art of other related standards and recommendations.

Per request, Prosertek can design and manufacture fender systems according to other national and/or international standards.

Anchors are calculated considering the worst load combination, material grade, adherence of surface, etc.

Types of fenders

TCN type fenders

TNC type fenders stand out for having a good E/R energy-reaction ratio and for their robustness and durability.
They are also capable of supporting large panels and come in a wide range of sizes and grades, making them ideal for all types of berths and structures and for parallel motion systems.

SC type fenders

SC type fenders have a high deformation capacity and a large footprint, making them the perfect solution for all types of terminals, structures or berths.

This type of fender also comes in a wide range of sizes and supports large panels.

IV type fenders

Their high energy absorption capacity, their modular and compact design and their resistance to lengthwise cutting make type IV fenders ideal for all types of berths, structures and terminals.

This type of fender is easy to install either symmetrically or asymmetrically. It can be used for parallel motion systems.

SVA type fenders

The SVA model is characterised for its robustness, durable fender and for being designed as one single piece. It is also easy to install horizontally and vertically, standing out for its good angular features lengthwise.

This piece is ideal for all types of berths and for multi-purpose terminals, general cargo docks, docks for barges and tugboats or fishing docks.

SVA-P type fenders

The SVA-P type fenders offer similar features to the SVA model, but have increased durability, physical resistance and resistance to abrasion, thanks to the PE-UAPM plate that is positioned on top of the reinforced rubber unit.

This model therefore provides a low friction coefficient, good angular features lengthwise and the option of being installed vertically or horizontally, all with minimal maintenance. It is also a very versatile type of fender suitable for all types of berths.

C type fenders

This fender model stands out for being the first type of rubber fender. The use of this material allowed us to design a simple and economic fender, as well as being highly resistant and durable with a progressive reaction/ deformation curve.

Type C fenders are easy to install and have been used for more than 60 years, the reason why they are proven effective for all types of berths. It is also highly versatile, since it can be used for general and bulk cargo terminals, containers, roll on/roll offs and ferries, cruise ships, fishing and barge docks, and for pontoons and floating structures.

FL-N type fenders

FL-N type fenders offer excellent compressibility and elasticity, docking angles up to 15º and they exert low pressure on the vessel’s hull, allowing for the addition of tyre mesh for demanding applications. These features make the FL-N the ideal model for ship-to-ship berths, military ships and ports with large water level variations, although it can be used in all types of docks and for all types of vessels.

This model is easy to install, thanks to the fact that it can be deflated for its repositioning and it comes in a broad range of sizes. All FL-N fenders comply with the ISO 17375 standard for floating pneumatic fenders.

FL-E type fenders

The FL-E fenders stand out for their high shock absorption capacity and low reaction force, all thanks to the materials they are manufactured with, such as polyethylene foam core, polyurethane coating and nylon thread reinforcement.

Just like FL-N fenders, FL-E fenders exert low pressure on the ship’s hull. However, they differ greatly from the FL-N model, as this type of fender is unsinkable, does not need a protective tyre mesh and its coating resists wear and tear and leaves no mark on the ship’s hull.

DON type fenders

Some of the features of DON type fenders include their high energy absorption and low reaction force, the low pressures they exert on the ship’s hull and their ability to follow the tides. Their coating does not leave any mark on the ship’s hull.

All of these features make it an excellent model for marking arrivals at docks, locks and dry dams, for protecting corners and bridges, for rotating structures and roll on/roll off terminals.

ECN type fenders

ENC type fenders are characterised by ensuring smooth contact with the ship’s hull, low rolling resistance and absorbing energy by deflection and rolling. Their bearings are maintenance-free and can be combined as a single, double or triple solution.

This model is compatible with all types of vessels and is ideal for protecting the ship’s hull from certain surfaces, such as lock entrances or dry dam walls and entrances and exposed corners. It can also be installed to guide ships through narrow passages.

ERC type fenders

ERC type fenders have a low rolling resistance and absorb energy mainly by rolling, which allows smooth contact with the ship’s hull. Their robust bearings means they do not need to be serviced and solutions can be combined in a single, double or triple format.

The ERC model can be placed in exposed corners, lock and dry dam walls and entrances or in a way that they guide vessels through narrow passages. This allows us to protect both the surfaces and the hull of the ship.

RF-E type fenders

The RF-E type fenders consist of ERC fenders with padding foam, allowing them to provide the same benefits of low rolling resistance and soft contact with the ship’s hull, while providing extra protection and energy absorption thanks to the foam layer.

Their applications include the same as for the ERC model: they are compatible with all types of ships and can be placed in exposed corners, lock and dry dam walls and entrances or in such a way that they guide ships through narrow passages.

Pivot fenders

The pivot fender systems consist of a front panel with rubber TNC, SC or IV type fenders, which is attached to several joints anchored under the sea or on the dock wall, near the water. It is therefore possible to rotate the pivot fender system according to the position of the ship and its belt, ensuring energy absorption with minimal reaction force, as well as occasional contact with the belt regardless of its height.

These characteristics make the system especially useful for docks for roll on-roll offs and ferries, since the hulls of these ships are usually reinforced with a belt and require a solution that allows contact with the fender system through the belt, regardless of sea level or the cargo of the ship itself.

Pivot fender systems are project specific; they need to be uniquely designed in order to cover all the individual vessel and berthing requirements as well as the site conditions. Contact Prosertek for further details or download our brochure.

Parallel motion fenders system

The parallel movement fender system is the ideal solution whenever the ship’s hull is sensitive to dual contact, the tidal range is high/very high or for piling- based berthing structure or that is sensitive to loads.

It consists of a long front panel with articulated arms, a torsion tube and fender units, which are capable of ensuring the vertical position of the front panel and its rotation. To ensure greater energy absorption and limit reaction, Prosertek also recommends the use of two TNC-type fender units installed in a back-to-back configuration.

Parallel motion fender systems are project specific; they need to be uniquely designed in order to cover all the individual vessel and berthing requirements as well as the site conditions.
