The port equipment sector is a basic pillar for operability in ports and is constantly subject to innovation. The need to perform manoeuvres in safer ports involves the importance of professional calls to share information and learn about the latest technological developments. This is exactly what happened last Tuesday 5 November, with the holding of a meeting scheduled by the Spanish Technical Association of Ports and Coasts, which Prosertek was also in attendance at, presenting our berthing aid systems.
This full-day event, called “Experiences and new developments in port equipment” was held at the State Ports conference hall in Madrid, during which these issues were highlighted. The chairman of the State Ports, Salvador de la Encina, alongside Manuel Arana, Chairman of ATPYC, kicked off the event that showcased different experts from the ports sector, from equipment technicians to port authorities.
The testimonies of these authorities marked the first part of the agenda; Marcelo Burgos Teruel, Head of the Department of Civil Works from the Valencia Port Authority spoke about the experience in his port; Antonio Ginard, Head of the Balearic Islands Port Authority Infrastructure Section provided information about the berthing system design and operation for large-sized vessels, while Sven Valentin, director of the Valencia MSC Terminal gave a presentation on the equipment at his terminal at Valencia Port.
The second part of the day was dominated by businesses working with port equipment (Shore Tension, Cavotec, etc.) and reputable consultants (Siport 21), who presented their proposals, experiences and studies related to this port equipment. Among the attendees was our colleague, Roberto Sánchez from Prosertek’s Engineering Department, who gave an extensive presentation on our berthing aid systems, and our BAS system in particular.

These benefits became apparent during this event, allowing certain attendees related to State Ports, port authorities, consultants and maritime works contractors in general to confirm the virtues of the system and its potential to improve the safety and operability of berthing and mooring operations of any type of vessel.
