The Port of Singapore has been awarded “Best Global Seaport” at the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFFLAS) Awards that took place on 7 September 2022 last.
The awards, organised annually by Asia Cargo News, took place at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong, bringing together the major companies in the freight, logistics and supply chain sectors, taking home 49 awards in a range of categories.
This is the second consecutive time that the Port of Singapore has won the award for Best Port in the World, after winning it in 2021. And that was not all– the port of Singapore has also been named “Asia’s best seaport” for the 34th time. These awards recognise the Port of Singapore’s contributions to the global supply chain, as well as its leadership in driving maritime transformation.
“We will continue to uphold high service standards and drive initiatives that enable Singapore to be a more vibrant, digital and sustainable port,” said Mr Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Eng Dih also stated that the Port of Singapore will continue to play its role in keeping supply chains in motion as the world economy recovers from COVID-19.
Hamburg, the best European port
The Port of Hamburg has been selected as the best port in Europe. It is the third consecutive time that it has received this award from AFLAS in this category.
Hamburg is also no stranger to these awards, winning recognition for “Best Maritime Port – Europe” in 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021, as well as “Best Global Maritime Port” in 2018 and 2019.
For Anne Thiesen, Marketing Representative for the Port of Hamburg, the award shows how the Port of Hamburg’s continued good reputation in Asia. Axel Mattern, general marketing manager for the Port of Hamburg, was also delighted with the award. “Being chosen in these difficult times as the best seaport in Europe is a great honour. It shows that the port of Hamburg continues to assert itself successfully as a universal port in the face of international competition,” he added.

THE AFLAS Awards are organised each year by the logistics magazine Asia Cargo News and voted by 15,000 readers and subscribers of its e-News, choosing from among the major service providers, such as airlines and shipping, airports and seaports, logistics companies and other industry specialists.
The nomination criteria were established by Asia Cargo News, assessing aspects such as leadership, consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability. Following an initial assessment, the top eight companies in each category faced a final vote, with four companies in each category entering the final.
Written by leading journalists in the transport and cargo sector, Asia Cargo News is an essential source of information for cargo, logistics and supply chain companies located in and doing business there in Asia.
